In addition to ringing in a new season, the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team was also ringing in a new era earlier this week. On Monday, UNC hosted Western Carolina in Michael Malone’s first game as the Tar Heels’ head coach. While they got the win, it wasn’t as much of a cakewalk as you might’ve hoped; UNC won by just eight, getting outscored in the second half. Tonight, they’ll try and improve on that in game two.
Carolina will host Wofford in the second game of the season (and the Malone
era). The Terriers come into this game 0-1, having lost to Tennessee in their season opener. They’re ranked #290 in the KenPom ratings, which is over 100 places below Western Carolina. That being said, Wofford is — somehow — riding a two-game win streak in Chapel Hill, having beaten the Tar Heels in December 2017 and December 2019.
