BYU added its likely starting tight end to next season’s team as USC transfer Walker Lyons has signed with BYU, according to multiple reports. Lyons is listed as a 4-star transfer by 247 Sports.
Walker is the older brother of BYU QB commit Ryder Lyons. He heavily considered BYU before his mission but ultimately committed to the Trojans. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Walker was USC’s fifth leading receiver. He finished the season with 20 receptions, 223 receiving yards, and 2 TDs. He had 4 catches for 39 yards at Illinois and 2 catches for 42 yards versus Michigan.
BYU must replace starting tight end Carsen Ryan and Lyons will likely fill that role. He is a big body who has good receiving skills and should see his production see a big uptick now that he has a clear path to be tight end #1. Aaron Roderick has proven that he will use skilled tight ends. Carsen Ryan was BYU’s third leading receiver this season, finishing with 45 receptions, 620 yards, and 3 TDs. Lyons has the same ability to make a similar impact.
Lyons will be a junior this upcoming season and should make a big impact both of his seasons in Provo.
