When it comes to Dusan Vlahovic’s contract situation at Juventus, there’s been a large understand for a very lengthy period of time now: Once the 2025-26 season comes to an end, he’s probably heading somewhere else. It doesn’t matter how much he loves the club, it doesn’t matter how much talent he may have, it’s just a far-from-simple matter that Juve’s inability to sell him last summer will result in him walking this coming summer.
However, there’s always been a little bit of a sliver of a door left
open. The kind of sliver that pretty much had you sitting there going “Welllllll … maybe ….”
It looks like that door might be opening up a little bit more than when it’s compared to how things looked in early September.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus and Vlahovic’s camp have held initial talks about a potential contract extension. If something actually develops and there looks like a possibility of Vlahovic staying emerges, then it will be a significant shift where everything looked to be going following Juventus’ inability to move him to another club in the same fashion as his good friend Federico Chiesa the summer before so that they didn’t risk losing him on a free transfer after the season. But when it comes to Di Marzio’s reporting on the meeting between Juventus and Vlahovic’s reps, there’s the fact that it “revealed both parties’ openness to moving forward together” and that “in reality there was never any real closure.”
Di Marzio also added this: “Juventus has made it clear that they are willing to renew the player’s contract.”
But that doesn’t mean there’s any sort of immediate resolution expect, according to Di Marzio. While the two sides are expected to meet again soon, there’s going to be some time needed for them to actually see what needs to happen for Vlahovic to actually extend his contract in Turin.
So, here we are again when it comes to a Juventus front office talking about a potential new contract with Vlahovic, who is once again nearing the end of a season in which he has earned a Serie A-high €12 million net salary.
The big question on top of just the simple one of how smart it is for Juventus to actually get into deep extension talks with Vlahovic is just how much this might cost compared to what he is making right now. There is no feasible world in which Vlahovic is paid anything close to what he is making right now. And, I would assume, that is a lot of what the club’s willingness of bringing Vlahovic involves — it has to be on Juventus’ terms, as Di Marzio has reported.
What those terms are, who knows. We haven’t really heard what a potential salary price might be when it comes to what Juventus would be willing to offer. But to expect Juventus to even consider having Vlahovic be the highest-paid player in Serie A with this potential new contract feels like a step too far and not what they want to see happen with their asset allocation.
But, the fact that they’re talking about maybe signing a new contract is more than we can say about the fall months that we all assumed he was as good as gone. Di Marzio says Vlahovic “has no agreements or commitments with any team,” so you have to believe at this point that seeing him come back is at least somewhat possible. Maybe that changes after the next meeting or two, but right now the door is open more than it appeared to be at any point over the 2025-26 season.
