Carlie Irsay-Gordon is leading the way for the Indianapolis Colts. Yes, she shares ownership with her sisters, but she is calling the shots at the highest level. The late Jim Irsay wasn’t afraid of labeling a season or issuing an “all chips in” type of claim, and it appears that neither is Irsay-Gordon. “Find a Way” is this year’s theme, which means there is no room for excuses.
At training camp in Westfield, she reiterated her faith in Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen. And why wouldn’t she? It was
her decision to bring them back, and she isn’t going to shy away from that before the season starts. Irsay-Gordon also stated that she feels the Colts have everything they need to be successful. If ownership says you have what you need and to find a way to win and you fall short, the consequence will be severe.
Leadership doesn’t equip its team with the tools and assets to win only to tolerate failure. At the end of the day, what would the excuse be? She feels the GM, coach, and quarterback are all set up for success. If this season is fumbled, there will be no one left to blame. Is her sentiment correct or fair? That is debatable. Some fans may see a flawed product in this year’s team, but only one opinion matters. That woman believes the Colts have what it takes, so Ballard and Steichen better deliver.
Maybe Carlie Irsay-Gordon is simply speaking candidly. Maybe she is sending a subtle message. Maybe she is doing both. Whatever she means, it sounds like excuses won’t be accepted this year. Whatever occurs, the Colts must find a way to win. That’s it. Find a way, or Ballard, Steichen, and anyone else who falls short will find themselves seeking new employment.
