We don’t know much about Maxime Meyer and his family, or Nick Arnold’s either, but Duke’s other four recruits have something in common: Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, Cameron Williams, Bryson Howard, and Deron Rippey Jr. all have fathers who have a background in basketball. And all of them have helped mold their sons into prominent prospects.
Boumtje Boumtje and Howard both had fathers who played in the NBA, and Williams and Rippey had dads who worked hard with them to develop their skills.
This article
from SLAM details the Rippey’s journey. Dad Deron Sr., who went to ECU by the way, really put the time in with his son, and his son in turn really soaked it up.
This is similar to the Williamses, where Cameron’s dad forced him to learn to work inside before he would allow him to shoot threes. We imagine that the Boumtje Boumtjes and the Howards had similar backgrounds.
Anyway, this is a pretty cool story. Sounds like Duke got a good one.
