The Wisconsin Badgers are back on the road to finish a dreadful October, as they take on the No. 6 Oregon Ducks in Eugene on Saturday.
The Badgers are on a five-game losing streak, having lost four straight
conference games and nine straight in the Big Ten dating back to last year. Their offense has been among the worst in the country, ranking 133rd with 13.3 points per game. During conference play? That figure has dipped to five points per game, as the Badgers have been shut out in each of their last two games.
Wisconsin has struggled to run the ball all year. Running backs Dilin Jones, Darrion Dupree, and Cade Yacamelli have all rushed for under four yards per carry this season, while the Badgers as a collective are only averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Their rushing offense ranks 112th in the country in yards per game and 123rd in yards per attempt, despite running the ball the 36th most in college football.
On the other hand, their passing game has been abysmal the last two weeks, as Hunter Simmons has totaled 136 passing yards and four turnovers against Iowa and Ohio State. Wisconsin’s passing offense ranks 124th in yards per game, giving them the 131st-best offense in college football on a yards per game basis.
Defensively, they’ve shown competitiveness at times, but have also struggled in big games. The run game could be a big problem for the Badgers on Saturday. Against the two good rushing attacks they’ve faced this year, Wisconsin gave up 175 and 210 rushing yards, respectively. They now face an Oregon team that averages over 240 rushing yards per game, which is top 10 in the country, and 6.6 yards per carry, which is second in the country.
The Ducks are one of the most well-rounded teams in college football, having a top-10 scoring offense and defense. So, it will be another challenge for the Badgers, as they look to get out of an ugly month.
