Do you have a love for writing about sports? Can you write about current events based on an ever-changing stream of information? Do you possess a talent for presenting an effective argument? Are you a fan who wants his/her voice heard? Are you a college student who is looking for additional writing experience, more exposure, and a mentorship to lay the foundation for a career in sports journalism? Do you want to help us build what should be the premier website for all Rutgers Athletics-based news?
Most importantly, do you love Rutgers Athletics and want a chance to not only join the conversation but start it?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this is the article for you. On The Banks is looking to add more writers as Rutgers’ spring sports are in full swing and the fall/winter sports continue to make moves in offseason recruiting and the transfer portal.
There is no requirement on how much or little to post, but we would like our writers to commit to anywhere between 2-3 articles per week to begin. Anything extra is great and will serve as great exposure as well! Pitches for all types of articles are welcome as well!
The ideal contributor will be open to writing about any sport at Rutgers. The two most prominent topics for the site are Football and Men’s Basketball, but any article that includes sports like Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Wrestling, and Field Hockey are more than welcome as well! If you have a solid grasp of college’s spring sports, this is an opportunity to show your talents immediately.
Our ideal candidate:
- Has strong knowledge about Rutgers, both current and historical.
- Can write effectively about any major Rutgers sports program
- Possesses strong writing skills.
- Can identify what news is and can perform the necessary research to go along with it
- Can write and publish quickly while remaining accurate.
- Is a self-starter who can work with minimal direction.
- Possesses solid communication skills.
- Is comfortable pitching ideas and collaborating with other contributors.
- Is comfortable working in a virtual environment.
Previous writing experience is preferred but not required. If you are interested in joining our team, or would just like more information, please contact Andrew Rice at andrewrice5078@gmail.com or send a message via X/twitter @OTB_SBNation or @Andrew78Rice!
