Lennart Karl was on the verge of making history and he did just that. With his goal in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Sporting CP, the 17-year-old became the youngest ever player to score in three straight
Champions League matches. He also won Man of the Match for his efforts in this game:
Karl has netted against Club Brugge (4-0 Bayern win), Arsenal (3-1 loss), and now Sporting where he joins Serge Gnabry and Jonathan Tah on the scoresheet to offset Joshua Kimmich’s own goal.
Even in the Bundesliga, the young Karl has become an influential figure on the pitch despite his limited playing time. It’s rare to see an academy player blossoming in the first team, but Karl has been an unexpected yet welcome surprise for Bayern. Whether it’s on the right or at the center of three attackers behind Harry Kane, “Lenny” has proven to be an adept player in both positions.
