Newcastle United are very well known and in need of exploring options to strengthen their attack this summer, so rumors about new strikers linked to the club popping up every day aren’t surprising anymore.
That doesn’t mean the forward line is not a humongous concern following last summer’s window, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa considered average-to-good signings but then struggling mightily to deliver consistent performances in the Premier League and beyond.
As a result, Newcastle are expected
to prioritise bringing in a proven option capable of contributing immediately, with perhaps one of Woltemade or Wissa going out.
Turns out disgruntled Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has now emerged as a potential target after his future at Bayern Munich was confirmed by the club’s CEO.
The Senegal international has spent the season on loan in Germany but is set to return to Chelsea after failing to secure a permanent move to Bayern, with the Bavarians simply letting him go and returning him to the Londonians come July.
“NEWCASTLE are interested in signing Chelsea ace Nicolas Jackson after Bayern Munich decided to end his loan this summer,” The Sun reported on Sunday.
Jackson has scored 10 goals and assisted four moer in 29 appearances during his time at Bayern, but he’s reasonably struggled for regular minutes behind Harry Kane. The German club had included an obligation to buy the striker for £56.2million, dependent on appearance-related conditions that are not going to be met.
“We will not trigger the option for Nicolas Jackson,” Bayern director of sport Max Eberl said, as reported by The Sun.
That decision has reopened the market for the 24-year-old, with Newcastle now among the clubs monitoring his situation and Chelsea more than open to getting rid of Jackson, for both squad size-management and financial concerns.
