Indiana men’s basketball is having as hot of an offseason as anyone in college basketball with six transfer portal commitments just eight days into the portal window.
Add in Trent Sisley and a trio of freshman signees and that makes ten spots spoken for on the 2026-27 roster. Darian DeVries and the rest of the Hoosiers’ staff has moved quickly building a roster with high-major talent necessary to compete in the Big Ten, rectifying some of the previous offseason’s errors.
They almost certainly aren’t
done.
The program signed Sisley, ten transfer portal prospects and two international freshman last offseason, which is 13. If Indiana is looking to reach a similar number, that means there’s around three spots left. How could the staff fill these?
Well, the frontcourt as of right now appears to be Samet Yigitoglu, Aiden Sherrell and Trent Sisley while the backcourt is loaded with Markus Burton, Bryce Lindsay, Jaeden Mustaf and Darren Harris. That’s before counting the three freshmen, who all play backcourt roles and could see occasional minutes this season.
Indiana needs a backup center behind Yigitoglu more than anything. If Trent Sisley takes a leap he can absolutely take some of Sherrell’s minutes at power forward off the bench, but if Yigitoglu needs to sit, which he will, the only option right now is Sherrell sliding over. The Hoosiers played a pretty even rotation at center last season and could look to do the same with more minutes in favor of Yigitoglu.
What Indiana really needs is someone who can come in for 10 or so minutes off the bench and just play a role. Set hard screens and rebound. The program could look to fill this through the portal or in the international ranks, where Ryan Carr should be able to help quite a bit given the connections he’s built over time at the NBA level.
As for the other two spots? Maybe fliers on portal talent willing to sit or other international signings. Indiana tried that last offseason to little success with both Aleksa Ristic and Andrej Acimovic electing to leave in the portal this offseason. Another frontcourt talent aside from the one mentioned above couldn’t hurt.
