The Bayern Munich Frauen will be without Giulia Gwinn for the coming weeks after the defender suffered a torn lateral ligament in her left ankle during Saturday’s 1-0 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
The injury was confirmed in a release by the club after examinations were carried out by the FC Bayern medical team, presenting a frustrating setback for one of Bayern Munich’s most important players. Gwinn has established herself as a key figure for both club and country, making her absence
particularly significant during a busy stretch of the season. It was already announced that Gwinn would miss the upcoming slate of games for Germany, but the full extent of her injury was unknown until now.
The 27-year-old will also miss Germany’s upcoming international matches against Australia on October 9th in Karlsruhe and Japan on October 13th in Bremen. Those matches would have provided another opportunity for Gwinn to play an important role for the national team, but her injury now forces Germany to look elsewhere.
For Bayern Munich, the priority will be managing Gwinn’s recovery and ensuring she returns without complications. The timing is unfortunate, especially after the team secured an important away victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich and Germany will both hope Gwinn can make a full recovery and return to action as soon as possible.
