What just happened?!? With nearly a fully rotated side from their solid 2-1 victory on Saturday the USMNT actually one upped themselves, that’s what. The USMNT picked up a fourth straight win and in decisive fashion, defeating Uruguay 5-1 on Tuesday night behind goals from Sebastian Berhalter, Diego Luna, Tanner Tessmann, and an Alex Freeman brace. The US scored their first goal 17 minutes in after Sergino Dest combined with Berhalter off a set piece and Berhalter curled a nice ball into the far
corner. Just four minutes later Alex Freeman would score his first goal off a very nice header and the route was on. Freeman would score his second and Diego Luna added the teams fourth before the half was out for the US to take a four goal lead. They did give up a goal just before the half after Matt Freese did not exactly shut the door on the goal keeper competition as a lack of communication led to a Uruguay chance on what could have been a simple collection or at least a clearance. The ball got headed around the box a bit before De Arrascaeta hit a nice overhead volley to get Uruguay on the board. Freese was back in goal by the time the shot was taken but it was a needless opportunity to have given up.
In the second half the subs came on starting around the sixtieth minute and Tanner Tessmann would head home the fifth and final goal moments later off a cross served in by Giovanni Reyna who followed up Saturday’s two goal contributions with another on Tuesday.
There were nine new starters in this match and there is surely lots of love to go around after such a decisive win over a quality opponent but who do you think deserves the Man of the Match honors?
