While board member for sport Max Eberl indicated that the issue which caused captain Manuel Neuer to leave Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen at halftime on Saturday was “nothing dramatic”, it does appear as if the goalkeeper is set for a spell on the sidelines.
The club released a statement saying Neuer was out “for the time being” with a torn muscle fiber in his calf:
FC Bayern will have to make do without captain Manuel Neuer for the time being. The keeper suffered a torn muscle fiber in his
left calf in Saturday’s Bundesliga match at Werder Bremen. This was confirmed by a thorough examination carried out by FC Bayern’s medical unit.
Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Neuer will be out approximately three weeks:
Manuel Neuer is expected to be sidelined for around 3 weeks. Only in the unlikely event of a quick recovery could he be fit for the Dortmund game in two weeks.
Neuer becomes the third Bayern Munich player since the start of 2026 to be felled by a calf injury, joining Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro, who each recently missed time.
Jonas Urbig is expected to absorb the minutes in between the sticks for Bayern Munich, while Neuer recovers.
