Good morning, baseball fans!
Last week, the San Francisco Giants signed starting pitcher Tyler Mahle to a one-year deal, which Bryan covered over here if you missed it. Some have speculated that the team might continue to prioritize the rotation in the remaining offseason. However, as Brady mentioned in his post on Friday, it seemed equally likely that this was going to be it.
Earlier this week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area essentially confirmed the latter opinion, as he posted on social media
that General Manager Zack Minasian said that while the organization will continue to look at free agent and trade options, they are “very comfortable” with where the team is at with regards to starting pitcher depth at the moment.
As Brady noted in his post, that sets the likely 2026 Giants rotation as Logan Webb (R), Robbie Ray (L), Tyler Mahle (R), Landen Roupp (R), and Adrian Houser (R).
That…is certainly a rotation. It’s got five guys and everything.
Okay, okay, that’s not really fair. We’re lucky as heck to have Webb and Ray, and I hope only for the best for the others. But it’s not exactly the most inspiring rotation given the competition in the division.
That said, one thing the Giants have fairly consistently surprised me with over the last few years has been how they’ve managed to get stand-out performances from unexpected starting pitchers. So I’m hoping that trend continues as well.
