Bayern Munich executive board member for sport Max Eberl’s fate continues to be an ongoing topic. Honorary president Uli Hoeneß had ruffled feathers with a “60-40” estimate of Eberl’s chances prior to the DFB-Pokal Final, and he subsequently felt bad enough about it to apologize as well as to upgrade the odds to “for now 100%.”
However, that may be putting the cart before the horse, and Bayern president Herbert Hainer moderated the claim slightly.
“I assume Uli meant that we’re very satisfied with
this transfer window,” said Hainer in comments captured as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
Everyone seems happy with Bayern’s acquisitions this summer, Ismael Saibari from PSV and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt. It is the remaining sales business that Eberl, whose contract is up in 2027, still needs to deliver upon — and then he will be evaluated.
But all in good time.
“We had agreed beforehand that we were looking to strengthen two positions: a backup option in attack and more pace in defense,” Hainer elaborated. “I’m convinced we’ve filled those needs with two very good players. At the same time, I believe we’ve also moved on more than ten players and generated transfer income, which was another objective. We still have four weeks left in the window to possibly find clubs for one or two more players.
“Regarding the question, that’s a matter for the supervisory board. And I’m convinced the supervisory board will make the right decision. I should also say that the same applies to [CEO] Jan-Christian Dreesen – we’re just as satisfied with the work he has done.”
Time is running out fast for Eberl and Bayern to get these deals done. And Hainer and Hoeneß himself both appear to be recognizing that the club may not be able to move out all three of the senior team players (João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza) on the transfer block.
