The Virginia Tech Hokies needed many upgrades after head coach James Franklin took over in November. Franklin then signed a top-25 recruiting class before the focus turned to the NCAA transfer portal.
The portal opened on January 2 and the Hokies have been busy.
The two positions needing the most attention were quarterback and edge rusher: Tech has landed a commitment from QB Bryce Baker (North Carolina), with QB Ethan Grunkemeyer (Penn State) expected at any time. At edge rusher, Franklin landed two former elite recruits with multiple years of eligibility remaining: Javion Hilson (Missouri) and Kamauryn Morgan (Baylor).
He wasn’t done.
On Sunday, former Penn State EDGE Mylachi Williams revealed he was following head coach James Franklin to Blacksburg.
The 6-foot-3, 248-pound was a 3-star prospect, per 247Sports, in the 2024 recruiting class. He redshirted that season and appeared in four games in 2025, recording one tackle. Williams is from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and played high school football at Monsignor Bonner.
Williams now joins a completely revamped group of edge rushers under new defensive line coach Sean Spencer.
