Bayern Munich’s start to the season has left fans with little to complain about, but winger Luis Díaz has struggled to find the back of the net as often as he is usually capable of. Díaz has scored just once while accumulating 3.79 xG this season, and the drop in form has become noticeable enough to draw Vincent Kompany’s attention.
When asked about it as Bayern prepare themselves to face SV Elversberg in the Bundesliga this weekend, Kompany said: “[Díaz] just lacks the finishing touch. His energy
is there, and he’s a constant threat. You also have to get into those positions first, keep making those runs in behind. At the moment, he’s getting into those situations and maybe lacking a bit of luck at the end – the shot is deflected, or another player sticks a foot in. But the important thing is that he’s getting the chances and he needs to stay calm; then he’ll be successful in front of goal again.”
While fans have suggested this could stem from fatigue, Kompany sees no cause to worry. Regardless, fans are sure to hope that Díaz returns to form sooner rather than later.
