‘Bama shoves another body in the locker.
Hoooo, baby. How’s this for some unexpected news in the middle of football season? High four-star SF/G Chris Washington Jr. committed to Alabama today over the likes of Auburn, Tennessee and others in the SEC, as well as the walking piggy banks in Louisville and Ann Arbor.
Washington is a long guard, describing himself as “maybe Brandon Miller 2.0,” with recruiting evaluators describing him as “effortlessly athletic” despite his frame. The 6’9,“ 200-pound Washington out
of Murfreesboro’s Providence Christian is the No. 1 player in the state, and the No. 18 SF, but is the nation’s overall No. 29 recruit.
He has great length which he leverages on the defensive end of the floor, some insane ups for his size — he often plays above the rim on the break and in cleaning up offensive rebounds, and he’s just smooth and fast (especially on the break). That’s really the only way to describe his frame: Smooth. Everything looks like it comes easily to him athletically. His jumper is smooth. Running the floor is smooth. Getting to the basket is smooth. His offhand floater is smooth. His body control is smooth. His ability to pick pockets with those lightning fast hands is smooth.
Washington is not the pure shooter that Miller was, and isn’t a three-level offensive threat — but he’s Nate’s kind of guy: rim and three. And though he’s a good on-ball defender, he will need much more work on his overall positioning and physicality. The problem with such lanky players is that they can get backed down by more forceful opponents. But there’s a ton of raw potential here that can be polished at Alabama. And, with the Tide’s backcourt taking a beating in 2026, Washington is one of the centerpieces of this year’s signing class.
Just an all around great pickup by Nate Oats and Preston Murphy. Check out some of his highlights.
Welcome to Tuscaloosa, Chris
