Sal Colangelo, a longtime Bethesda Big Train manager in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, was named Maryland baseball’s new general manager on Friday.
Colangelo brings more than 27 years of coaching experience with the Big Train, guiding the team to more than 660 wins and 11 Cal Ripken League titles. He was also inducted into the league’s Hall
of Fame in 2019.
“He brings an incredible wealth of baseball knowledge and experience, but what makes this so special is how well he understands the DMV and the pride he has for baseball in this area,” head coach Matt Swope said in a press release.
A two-sport athlete at Virginia Tech, Colangelo has spent much of his life around the DMV. Now, he’ll look to help Swope turn around a Maryland program coming off consecutive losing seasons for the first time in over a decade.
