NFL Insider shares when a Maxx Crosby-49ers trade could take place
“However, Breer believes the 49ers should let the season play out before moving any assets for Crosby this summer:
“But if I were them, I think I’d wait a bit before diving all-in. Let’s see how that core looks over the first month or two of the season. The last thing you’d want, I think, is to see a bunch of guys get old at once right after you sold off assets you would need to get younger.”
You wouldn’t want to stunt the growth of
Mykel Williams, Romello Height, and some of the other young defensive linemen. That’s not to say any of them are in the same stratosphere as Crosby. But if they get off to a hot start and look the part, why wouldn’t you continue to let them ascend as players?
Now if Mykel is still showing some effects from his injury last year, or if Height looks like a one-trick pony who can’t win, then Crosby would be one heck of a fallback option to have.”
Donte Whitner believes 49ers’ signing of Ashtyn Davis is a threat to Ji’Ayir Brown’s starting role
“I don’t think this move was made for him to be a backup,” Whitner said. “He’s coming to this team to compete for a starting job. I think this was a move to Ji’Ayir Brown and said, ‘We gave you two years as a starter. In this third year, we cannot allow you to be a detriment to our success, and if you start the season the way that you ended last season, we have a bunch of other guys in this locker room that we will replace you with.'”
49ers’ Kyle Juszczyk reveals encouraging George Kittle update, praises Mike Evans, minicamp decision
“George looks great. As he mentioned a couple of days ago, he really is ahead of schedule. He was impressive just last week, seeing him running zig-zag, like making cuts, actually hitting 16 MPH or something like that. I’ve been super impressed. He’s got another two months or so to get even better….It’s been enjoyable to watch him go through this process because he attacks it as such a professional. He makes it a point to, no matter what we’re doing, even when we’re down in Cabo and we’re celebrating [Christian] McCaffrey‘s birthday, and we’re golfing, that guy finds his time to rehab. Whether it’s early in the morning, late at night, he is always, always grinding. It’s always on the back of his mind. I really do think he’s going to beat some expected timetables. When he does come back, whenever that is, I think he’s going to come out there and be the George Kittle we all know and love….
….. I don’t need minicamp anymore. I think he had a good reason. I think the team is in a really good position. Guys are healthy. The young guys have done a really good job since they’ve been there. I just think we’re in a good spot and don’t think we needed it right now.”
