Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was left shocked when he discovered the severity of his current injury.
Lewandowski has been ruled out with a muscle tear and will miss the next 4-6 weeks because of
the problem.
The injury has caused plenty of headlines, with Barca said to have been angered by Lewandowski’s decision not to come off after feeling some discomfort while playing for Poland.
Journalist Mateusz Święcicki has now offered a little more insight and revealed how shocked Lewandowski was to learn the severity of his current problem.
“Lewy was convinced he’d be back in action in two days. However, after the tests, the reaction was: ‘Oh, damn. This is a serious problem’,” he said. “His health, in his opinion, was completely different from what the tests showed.”
Poland boss Jan Urban has also revealed his surprise at learning Lewandowski was set for several weeks off, while Hansi Flick has defended his striker.
He told a press conference last week that Lewandowski told him “he felt fine and didn’t feel any pain” and added “I don’t there’s a player who takes better care of his body than Robert.”
