Back in May 2006, Batista and Booker T got into a backstage fight in WWE. Reports at the time suggested that people in WWE were on Booker T’s side, as far as who was in the right and who was in the wrong.
Last week, a video clip of Batista discussing the altercation went viral. In the clip, Batista claimed that Booker T started the fight and knew he was injured.
“The thing that really bothers me about that whole altercation is he started a fight with me when I was injured…I always thought it was really, really low of him to start a fight with me when he knew I was injured, even if he was pissed at me or not. You know, you don’t fight a guy who’s dealing with an injury.”
Booker T responded to the video this week on his Hall of Fame podcast. He denied being a backstage bully in WWE, denied picking the fight with Batista, and denied knowing he was injured. Booker did confirm that he finished and won the fight, though.
“There’s a story going around, as far as the kerfuffle that Batista and I got into back in the day at the SummerSlam shoot out there in LA. I remember doing an interview about it, and I said…that’s what [happens] with men. Men get into it. They fight. I said but if I saw Batista today, I said [I’d] give him a hug and say what’s going on. You’re doing great out there in Hollywood.
But then I saw a video of him, and he said that it’s sad that the guy chose to pick a fight with me when I was injured. [laughs] And I go, wow, man. That’s just not fair.
First of all, I didn’t pick a fight with anybody. And I definitely didn’t know anybody was injured, or anything like that. That’s the first time I heard about anything like that. But it’s just one of those things, I just don’t want people to ever think that I was a bully or anything, and I would be going around picking fights with people. I did not pick a fight with anybody. But I did finish the fight with Batista. It’s one of those things to where, I won the world title after that thing was all over with, so obviously, I might’ve won the fight. [laughs].
…Nothing but love for Batista. And guys, quit pulling up these old stories where I’ve got to comment on ’em.”
Booker T continued to laugh off the silliness of Batista’s injury claim and said it’s like the boy who cried wolf.
“I had never seen the video. And that’s why I was shocked when I saw it, as far as, come on man. Being injured? That’s kind of like crying wolf a little bit. And then, again, saying that I picked a fight with him. [laughs]. You know, when I was in my underwear! That’s another story. [laughs]”
Does Batista sound like the boy who cried wolf? Was Booker T a backstage menace who picked fights with injured people in his underwear? Let me know your reaction to this strange story in the comments below, Cagesiders.
