The Green Bay Packers are officially going to be out running back Chris Brooks (and receiver Savion Williams) against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, according to the Packers’ final injury report of the week. Brooks left Week 4 action with an ankle injury and was a non-participant for all three practices this week. The team already moved up running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster, so it’s almost certain that Green Bay will roll into their divisional matchup with MarShawn
Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson and Strong as their three-man backfield.
Two players were also listed as doubtful for the game, meaning there’s a good chance they’ll miss Sunday’s action: left guard Aaron Banks (knee/toe) and offensive lineman Jacob Monk (quadricep). Both Banks and Monk were non-participants on Wednesday and Thursday, but were limited participants for Friday’s practice. Thankfully, the Packers have 11 offensive linemen on the 53-man roster, so they can afford to scratch three players at the position and would still have an eight-man unit going into games.
Players listed as questionable, true toss-ups, are offensive lineman Jager Burton (back), defensive lineman Anthony Campbell (ankle) and defensive lineman Javon Hargrave (toe). Burton and Campbell were limited participants in practice for most of the week (Burton was only a non-participant on Wednesday), while Hargrave was a full participant until Friday, when he popped up on the injury report and was listed as a limited participant.
Like the offensive line, the defensive line is “oversigned,” as the team has seven at the position on the 53-man roster, while the team generally keeps five players up on the 48-man game-day roster. Because Strong and Kristian Welch (backfilling for Edgerrin Cooper at the linebacker position) have already been brought up from the practice squad, don’t expect there to be moves made by the team before kickoff.
On the Bears’ end of the injury report, the most notable piece of news was that quarterback Caleb Williams went from a non-participant (hamstring) on Thursday to a limited participant on Friday and was given a questionable status going into Week 5. Rule out are linebacker Keyshaun Eliott (quadricep) and running back Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe). Beyond Williams, three other Chicago players are questionable: cornerback Kyler Gordon (calf), linebacker Noah Sewell (Achilles) and defensive lineman Shemar Turner (knee) — all of whom are on the Bears’ injury lists but have had their practice windows opened up.
