
Indiana’s new mascot, Hoosier the Bison, made its official debut during the Hoosiers’ season opener against Old Dominion last weekend before gracing the sidelines again during the win over Kennesaw State on Saturday.
The Bison’s return has been years in the making with fans and some segments of the media calling for the mascot, which roamed the Memorial Stadium sidelines in the late 1960s, to be reinstated several times over the past several years. around Indiana’s games and Bloomington as a whole for the past several seasons.
Indiana’s student government voted to re-adopt the mascot last December, urging the athletic department to take the lead on re-introducing the bison. The department responded in kind, teasing bison in several social media posts before revealing the mascot itself would make its official public debut during the football program’s 2025 season opener.
