The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves 6-2 with sole possession of first place in the AFC North as the trade deadline looms. Perhaps the biggest need on the team is a wide receiver, as giving Aaron Rodgers another weapon on the outside could propel the Steelers in their playoff push. However, one of the longest tenured Steelers beat writers seems to think the Steelers won’t make any major moves for a receiver at the November 10th trade deadline.
In his weekly Steelers chat on Wednesday, Gerry Dulac
of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was asked plenty of questions from readers about Pittsburgh adding another weapon. Despite consistent efforts from reads to gain any insight into the Steelers deadline plans, Dulac seemed adamant that Pittsburgh would not be making any move for a receiver.
“They’re not seriously pursuing any,” Dulac replied. “What I’m hearing is they are not likely or intending to make a trade, but as I always say, never under-estimate the desperation of an NFL GM who might coming knocking for a deal.”
It also seems as if the Steelers already feel they made a swing this season by trading for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. I can understand this thought process, considering Pittman Jr. has been banged up for the good majority of the season so far, it’s impossible to know what exactly he could have provided the offense.
With all of the hype around the Steelers right now amidst an active four-game winning streak and the possibility of adding even more talent to the team at the deadline, Dulac gives us an important reminder – the Steelers could very well stand pat at the deadline and hope their receiver room gets healthier, and hope they become quality separators against zone coverage all of a sudden. For now, it’s all speculation from now until we see a move become official.
