According to the NFL’s official transactions report, the Kansas City Chiefs signed cornerback Jadon Canady to his four-year rookie contract on Wednesday.
Canady was selected out of Oregon in the fourth round of last month’s NFL Draft with the 109th overall selection. He becomes the fourth of Kansas City’s seven drafted rookies to sign.
The team quickly signed wide receiver Cyrus Allen and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier — taken in the fifth and seventh
rounds respectively — within a week of the draft. The team’s other fifth round selection, former Nebraska running back Emmet Johnson, signed on May 5.
Entering Wednesday, we estimated that the Chiefs were only about $6.9 million under the league’s salary cap. Spotrac estimates that Canady’s 2026 initial cap charge will be about $1.9 million (on a $5.5 million total for the four-year deal). This should result in a net reduction of about $187,000 to the Chiefs’ available cap space.
We predict the Chiefs will need to make a move to open cap space before signing the sixth overall selection, former LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, because of his estimated $7.6 million first year charge.
The team’s other first round selection, former Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods taken with pick No. 29, remains unsigned. Woods has an estimated 2026 cap charge of $3.3 million
Kansas City’s unsigned second round pick is former Oklahoma pass rusher R Mason Thomas. The 40th overall pick is expected to have a $2.2 million rookie cap hit.
