Tom Bischof’s time with Bayern Munich has been interesting thus far. Coveted as one of the brightest talents in German football, Bischof excelled at Hoffenheim as one of their best players in the 2024/25
season. Bayern Munich fans were stoked to see Bischof join Die Roten on a free transfer, however, Bischof has not quite blossomed in Munich so far.
The German star midfielder has been mostly relegated to the bench behind other Bayern players, and has not been called up to the national team this season. Despite the lack of playtime, Bischof is surrounded by some great teammates, and even his favorite player.
“Vitinha – and Joshua Kimmich. Josh texted me shortly after my transfer was announced, while I was still in Hoffenheim. He had gotten my number. He wrote that when he joined Bayern, he hadn’t yet played a single Bundesliga match – and yet he still felt confident enough to make the move. And that he believed in me too. He said he was happy for me and that he believed in me. It was a wonderful, goosebump-inducing moment, to receive so much trust beforehand,” Bischof told Frankfurter Allgemeine as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
It is great to see Kimmich be a leader for teammates even before they join the club, and surely gave a confidence boost to Bischof. While the midfielder is still only getting started, it is only a matter of time before Bischof gets more minutes nad hopefully emerges as a starting player for Bayern.
While competition in the midfield and attack is fierce at the moment, there are some players that are too talented to sit on the bench, and Bischof might be the largest example of that. It is clear Bischof chose some strong players to look up to and if Bischof can play anywhere near the level of Vitinha or Kimmich, Bayern and Germany fans are in for a real treat.
