For the players who find themselves on the roster bubble, it’s getting to be about that time.
The Packers have joint practices with the Cardinals this week and a preseason game on Friday, and then it’s cutdown weekend; the Packers will trim their roster to 53 players by early Sunday evening.
Suffice it to say, if there’s anybody planning to make a late push for the roster spot, let him speak now or forever hold his peace. Or at least, hold it through the first waiver period.
To my eyes, the Packers’
roster looks pretty firm. There isn’t much wiggle room for late movement, but anything can happen. Injuries or other unexpected developments could be a factor yet, and there’s always the distinct possibility that the coaching staff is higher on a given player than fans and outside analysts are. I’m always open to surprises! Who knows what could happen?
Speaking of surprises, it was a year ago this week that the Packers traded for Micah Parsons. The Packers have been connected to a few different trade possibilities by the ever-churning NFL rumor machine, including persistent whispers about a move for Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat, who just so happens to be in Green Bay this week.
Brian Gutekunst likes to say roster work never ends. That’s certainly true, and he’s got a lot of work to do this week.

We had plenty of discussion on the site yesterday about the Packers’ new Rivalries uniforms. What about the rest of the NFC North? I hate the Rivalries project on the whole, but the NFC North might be the strongest division so far.
