New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson, who had been out since last Thursday due to an illness, took to social media on Friday to provide an update on his medical situation.
“Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days,” Henderson wrote in the statement. “During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive
medical testing have comeback positive and reassuring, the cause o f this remains unknown and unexplainable.”
“I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions. I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priority.”
Henderson, 24, joined the Patriots as a second-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft and burst onto the scene as a big-play threat. Serving in tandem with veteran running back Rhamondre Stevenson, he finished his rookie campaign with 1,132 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns.
His second NFL campaign, however, has been a challenge.
Henderson suffered an ankle injury in late August that forced him out multiple weeks into the regular season. He returned in Week 2 against the Steelers — a game that saw him score a 39-yard touchdown reminiscent of his 2025 form — but has touched the ball only 57 total times for 248 scrimmage yards and that one score since then. Along the way, he also suffered a high ankle sprain and has missed time due to his current illness.
That illness first came up last week leading up to New England’s game in Miami. Henderson was a full participant in practice on Wednesday before being absent the following two days and into the game. He was also a non-participant in practice so far this week.
The Patriots will host the Green Bay Packers at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. In light of his statement,Henderson’s participation appears to be in doubt.
