Not to bury the lead, but Day 4 at the Miller Electric Center belonged to two players and both of them wear number 12. From a dominant defensive rep showing his game-flipping ability, to a deep ball that brought the crowd to its feet, Travis Hunter and the story of Day 4 are essentially inseparable. But there was plenty more happening around the field.
Here is a full breakdown.
Arik Armstead Sets the Tone Early
The defensive player of the day was decided before the first half of practice was over, in this writer’s view. Arik Armstead
came out with the kind of physicality that serves as a reminder of just how dangerous a fully healthy version of him can be for opposing offenses. On the very first play, he welcomed Emmanuel Pregnon to the NFL in no uncertain terms, slinging the rookie guard to the ground on a D.J. Dallas run and forcing the back to bounce the other direction. Two plays later, Armstead recorded a tackle for a loss. As a tone-setter, it was about as convincing as it gets.
Pass Rush Depth Showing Up
Beyond Armstead, the rotational defensive end competition produced two notable individual reps. B.J. Green II had an impressive pass rush sequence against Brenton Strange, ending with Strange rolling backward and Green collecting what would have been a pressure or sack in a live game. Zach Durfee followed that up with two pressures during team periods, his second strong showing of early camp. Both players are making a genuine case that the depth behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker is more competitive than originally anticipated.
Rodriguez and Mekari Turn Heads
In what was one of the more encouraging offensive reps from the run game, Patrick Mekari opened an enormous hole that allowed Chris Rodriguez to go untouched on what would have been a significant gain in the early teams period.. Rodriguez looked comfortable and decisive, with multiple positive plays throughout the session. This wad clearly a meaningful development for the back returning from a reported foot procedure, who missed the entirety of the offseason program. The chemistry between Mekari and Rodriguez in that sequence was notable, and it serves as a reminder that, yes the team may be managing Mekari’s reps early on, the right guard battle is far from settled.
Walker Little, Anton Harrison Flip Sides
Walker Little continued to work on the right side to open practice, while Anton Harrison lined up at left tackle and looked sharp doing it. Similar to the 2025 offseason, where the team worked Harrison at both left and right tackle, it’s not entirely clear whether this was a schematic experiment with Cole Van-Lanen on the Active/PUP List, or simply a rotational rep, but it is worth monitoring as the Jaguars head deeper into the offseason.
Travis Hunter Show Continues
The top defensive play of camp so far was Travis Hunter’s interception and it is not particularly close. On a Nick Mullens throw intended for tight end Quintin Morris, Travis Hunter diagnosed the route, closed at full speed, and came away with an interception. The Mullens throw was ill-advised, attempting to fit the pass into triple coverage. However, Hunter was probably the only defensive back I didn’t expect to come down with the ball.
The duel threat cornerback and receiver showed off his anticipation and closing speed, jumping over the outside shoulder of Quintin Morris, and returned the ball to the opposing 20-yard line. It was the kind of play that reinforces why the organization is committed to his cornerback role in 2026.
Hunter: Not Just a CB
Hunter made two of the top three plays of the day, on opposite sides of the ball.
Following the above deep completion early on (on a BJ Green likely sack), later in practice, Trevor Lawrence found him on a 40-yard deep ball that showcased his elite ball skills. Hunter went up and climbed the ladder over cornerback Preston Hodge, his former Colorado teammate, to bring the ball in with impressive concentration.
Lawrence Builds on Back-to-Back Days
Lawrence is having a camp and day four may have been his best individual session to date. His only blemishes on Sunday was
- A drop by Jakobi Meyers on a deep ball where the ball came loose as Meyers hit the ground, a hard play to categorize as anything other than a drop for a receiver who rarely makes that kind of mistake, and
- An overthrow of Brian Thomas Jr, who had about four to five yards of separation on a sideline route 20-yards down the field.
Everything else was sharp, decisive, and accurate. Multiple beat writers have noted that the offense is operating significantly ahead of where it was at this point in camp a year ago and that trend continued on Day 4, but with a heavier emphasis on the run game.
Parker Washington Closes Strong
Washington finished the day with around four catches and the most decisive play of the offensive period, a double move that took him completely clear of the zone coverage with open grass in every direction. Lawrence found him in stride for the long, sliding grab touchdown with 10 yards of space. Washington also came down with a contested catch over the outstretched arms of linebacker Ventrell Miller, a play that was the early nominee for top offensive rep before Hunter’s interception took that designation.
Ventrell Puts His Stamp on the Day
Miller’s day was a two-sided story. He made a physical tackle for a loss during the red zone team period that stood out as one of the more impressive linebacker reps of the first day in pads. The Washington contested catch on the other end of the ledger was equally notable, a diving effort that he very nearly came down with.
Physicality Ramping Up
Following Sunday’s physicality and focus on the run game, Day 5 of training camp, on Monday, will mark the first fully padded practice of the 2026 Jaguars Training Camp at the Miller Electric Center.
As a final note, the only players who didn’t practice were linebacker Jack Kiser (knee), and offensive tackles Cole Van Lanen and Garrett DiGiorgio (both on the Active/PUP).
