Through two games the high flying, wheeling and dealing offense has been. Not great.
Yes they scored 26 points against the Los Angeles Chargers, but they settled for five field goals, making four and really never looking in sync for the entirety of the game.
Then game two happened and it was one of the most listless performances on offense I can remember.
If you take out Bam Knight’s 24 rushing yards at the end of the game, the team had 127 yards of offense.
Even with Knight’s 24 yards, the 151 total
yards is the low water mark for the franchise since 2023 when rookie Clayton Tune was a sacrificial lamb to the best defense in the league, the Cleveland Browns.
On that day, no one expected much and the 58 yards was embarrassing, but not exactly out of left field.
Outside of that one, you’d have to go back to 2018 to be sub 151 yards of total offense.
Maybe more than the lack of offensive output is the fact that outside of the second highest paid tight end in the NFL, this group looks devoid of talent.
And it’s not because they lack talent, they just don’t seem to be interested in utilizing the talent.
Look at these numbers through two games:
Jeremiyah Love – 20 carries 70 yards one touchdown, five receptions 25 yards
25 touches for 95 yards for the third overall pick.
Michael Wilson – 7 receptions 74 yards on 14 targets
Marvin Harrison Jr – 1 reception 33 yards on four targets
Eight receptions for 107 yards on 18 targets for the former fourth overall pick and the newly paid receiver.
Even Trey McBride’s numbers today looked more like a running back than a tight end with eight receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown.
Look, no one is expecting the greatest show on turf by week two, but with the talent we believe this team has, you can’t put up a game that takes you back to Steve Wilks, Mike McCoy and Sam Bradford era.
Of course that team had David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk… ok, maybe the names were nice, but DJ was coming off his career altering injury, Fitz was 35 and Kirk was a rookie in game two of his career, so saying that is equal is disingenuous, but this wasn’t fun to watch in the least.
