Now that the Cincinnati Bengals have filled some holes on the defense through free agency, they have options with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
And, according to Ian Rapoport, the Bengals will be meeting with running back Jeremiyah Love today.
The Notre Dame product has already met with the Tennessee Titans, who pick fourth, and the New York Giants, who pick fifth overall.
But wait, the Bengals already have Chase Brown at running back. So why would they be interested in Love?
According to his Draft profile on NFL.com, Love has a “workhorse mentality” and is “intentional as a run finisher.” He also “protects with consistent readiness to square up and scrap with blitzers”.
And while he is only 212 pounds, Love “runs with more power than his frame suggests,” as noted in his profile on NFLDraftBuzz.com. The site also had this to say about him: Outstanding contact balance for his speed profile, absorbing hits and keeping his legs moving through traffic.“
In terms of production, he had 2,497 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns in the last two seasons and won the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s top RB last year.
So if Cincinnati is looking for an AFC North style back to complement Brown and take more pressure off of Joe Burrow, then this pick makes sense, especially if the Bengals’ top defensive targets are gone.
