Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who previously played 18 years for the Green Bay Packers, said that the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Steelers and Packers wasn’t a “revenge game.” When meeting with the Green Bay press today on a Zoom call, the four-time MVP made even more news, showing his appreciation for his former club.
Rodgers said the following, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky
:“Feel so good about my time there because damn near everything great
in my life is because of my football career, and my football career starts, and will end one day, with Green Bay. So got a lot of love for all those memories.”
Rodgers added that he wants to have a post-game jersey swap with Jordan Love, the quarterback he mentored for three years before Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in the 2023 offseason.
When asked about facing his former team, he stated, “This one would mean a lot more if it was in Lambeau just because of affection I have for that place and the hallowed ground of Lambeau Field and all the amazing memories that I have there over the years.” According to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Rodgers ended with the following comment: “My football career starts and will end one day with Green Bay.”
So at some point, expect the Packers to sign Rodgers on a one-day contract where he’ll retire in a press conference in Green Bay.
For a lot of different reasons, the Packers facing off against Rodgers for the first time feels a whole lot different from when the team took on Brett Favre in a Minnesota Vikings jersey. For the most part, both sides have just reciprocated appreciation for the other this week.
