The Syracuse Orange field hockey squad had their 2025 season come to end on Sunday in Princeton, NJ. The Princeton Tigers scored off a penalty corner with under two minutes to play to defeat Syracuse 2-1
in the NCAA quarterfinal round.
The Tigers took control of the possession of the game early on but Syracuse goalie Jesse Eiselin made two saves in the first quarter to stop their momentum. Neither team was able to break through and the game was scoreless at the half.
It looked like Syracuse would get the lead in the third quarter as Aubrey Turner’s centering pass deflected off a Princeton defender and into the goal. The goal was wiped out by a video review, which puzzled both announcers. We didn’t get a clear explanation of the call and Princeton took advantage and cashed in a penalty corner to make it 1-0 heading into the final quarter.
With time winding down, the Orange pulled Eiselin and earned a penalty corner. Senior Bo van Kempen delivered a signature shot and tied the game a 1.
The game appeared to be headed to another overtime, but Princeton earned a penalty corner with under two minutes to play and Beth Yeager unleashed a hard shot that Eiselin got a stick on but couldn’t keep out of the goal. Princeton advances to face Harvard in the Final Four with North Carolina and Northwestern in the other semifinal.
Congratulations to the Orange on a strong season.
