There isn’t all that much to talk about. They just have to win today.
Shohei Ohtani is starting for the Dodgers, on short rest. Max Scherzer goes for the Jays. But we will see a lot of pitchers tonight.
It is a Johnny Wholestaff day.
I was looking at the Athletic’s 2025 predictions for the season. They were very close on one:
1. The Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. agree to a 15-year, $577 million contract on the eve of Opening Day — or soon after.
And miles off on another:
16. The Blue Jays fire general manager Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider after another disappointing season north of the border.
It definitely hasn’t been a disappointing season.
I would never have bet that the Jays would be playing in Game Seven of the World Series. They made few changes from the 2024 team that finished last. Their big free agent signing, Anthony Santander had a terrible season. But we had bounce back seasons from Bo and George, and had very few players have a poor season.
Bowden Francis joins Santander as a disappointment. And there were a couple of minor disappointments. Chad Green and Eric Swanson. Beyond that, I don’t think there was anyone who was anything less than what we could have hoped they’d be. I suppose Nick Sandlin being hurt for most of the year would be a disappointment, but we picked up players at the trade deadline to fill in for him.
Apparently George Springer didn’t let the Jays wallow in their loss last night. From Shi Davidi:
“George is the one that put the music on and he said, ‘If you told us Day 1 of spring training that you were going to be playing Game 7 to win or lose the World Series, would you take it?’ Everybody said, resoundingly, yes. He’s like – I’m not going to repeat the expletives – ‘So let’s go. We have one game to play for everything that we want. And all you’ve got to do is just go out there and be the best you can and do nothing different.’”
He’s a good leader.
Anyway, Jays, just win today.
