Kentucky Basketball is once again set to be in the running for Dedan Thomas Jr., this time after he entered the transfer portal following his lone season with the LSU Tigers.
It was this time last year that Thomas, then coming out of UNLV, was one of several point guard targets Kentucky had in mind before settling on Jaland Lowe.
Now, Kentucky will make a push for Thomas now that he’s back in the portal, according to KSR’s Matt Jones.
Additionally, Kentucky is set to have a Zoom call with Thomas on Tuesday
once the transfer portal is officially open, according to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck.
The irony here is that Thomas is coming off a season at LSU that was a bit too similar to Lowe’s at Kentucky. Both players battled injuries and missed much of this past season, though Thomas was able to suit up for 16 games, averaging 15.3 points (45.9% shooting but 30.2% from deep), 6.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per contest.
A left foot injury plagued Thomas throughout the year and ultimately led to season-ending surgery.
It would be nice to get more of a sure thing after Kentucky endured Lowe’s shoulder injuries this season, but Thomas is a high-level point guard when healthy.
