The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report of the week on Thursday in advance of their Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
The Eagles listed four players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: DeVonta Smith, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley, and Dallas Goedert.
Smith was seen warming up with the team early in practice but he did not actually participate. He’s listed with a hamstring injury, which is never comforting. As of me typing this sentence, there’s no been reporting
on the severity of the issue. Maybe the Eagles are just trying to manage him to get him to Monday.
Both Bigsby AND Shipley missing practice doesn’t seem ideal when Saquon Barkley (more on him below) is less than 100%. Those are the only three running backs on the Eagles’ roster. Of course, the team does have Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele, and Jaydon Blue on the practice squad. From that trio, Pierce is probably the top candidate to be temporarily elevated to the roster if the Eagles need an extra running back.
Goedert is set to miss multiple games but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that he’s expected to avoid going on injured reserve. If that’s the case, the Eagles seem to be hoping Goedert can return for the team’s Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers. Otherwise they could’ve just put him on IR, where he would’ve missed at least four games. With Goedert out, one would expect the recently re-signed Zach Ertz to be the Eagles’ top tight end. They have Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins on the roster behind Ertz.
The Eagles listed four players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Saquon Barkley, Jalen Carter, Jonathan Greenard, and Andrew Mukuba.
Barkley reportedly expects to play on Monday night but his limited participation suggest he’s less than 100%. We’ll have to see if he can actually make it through the game.
Carter is playing with a cast on his hand due to a wrist injury, so, he’s clearly not 100%. Guessing he’ll suit up against the Bears.
Greenard is still not fully participating in practice. It seemed like Week 3 made sense for his debut since there’s an extra day prior to the Monday game. Maybe the Eagles want to be extra cautious with him now that Case Keenum is likely to start against them? Just a guess. If Greenard doesn’t ramp up to full participation over the next two days, it’s hard to see him playing.
Mukuba suited up in Week 2 despite being ruled questionable to play with a knee injury. Guessing he’ll be able to play on Monday and the Eagles are managing his practice reps.
The Eagles listed one player under FULL PARTICIPATION: Tyler Steen.
Steen is a new addition to the report with a shoulder injury. He’s on track to start.

CHICAGO BEARS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)
The Bears’ injury report is an estimation since they did not actually practice on Thursday. Their first session of the week was on Wednesday … but the first injury report of the week ahead of a Monday game always comes out on Thursday.
The Bears listed six players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: starting quarterback Caleb Williams, top backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, 1B running back Kyle Monangai, starting cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, kicker Cairos Santos, and starting defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson previously said Williams will not practice leading up to Monday’s game. He also described Williams as “week-to-week” as opposed to the comparatively less ominous “day-to-day.” Sure seems like Williams will not suit up for this game while he recovers from the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2.
Bagent was in line to start for Williams until it was revealed that he’s in the concussion protocol. While there’s still time for him to be cleared ahead of Monday’s game, it’s not a good sign for his availability that he was listed under DNP today.
The Bears’ vaunted rushing attack is powered by the duo of former Eagle/Philly native D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai. The latter is dealing with a knee injury that caused the Bears to list him under DNP. Something to monitor.
The Bears are already missing slot defender Kyler Gordon to the reserve/PUP list. If Stevenson can’t play, Jaylon Johnson will be the only Bears starting cornerback available for this game. And while Johnson is a two-time Pro Bowler, he’s allowing a 118.7 passer rating when targeted in coverage this season.
Santos’ status bears watching (no pun intended, I swear). Kicker issues against the Eagles? That would be a new one for Chicago.
Jarrett is listed with a rest designation. He’ll be able to play, though the 33-year-old isn’t the same player he used to be earlier in his career.
The Bears listed two players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Shemar Turner and Noah Sewell.
They are ineligible to play on Monday since they need to miss four games before returning from IR.
