Predictably, I ghosted this post last week because I didn’t want to look at the kneejerk reactions or blog about them. I’m not proud of it, but I’m not apologizing for it either.
NFL Power Rankings for Week 3: Denver Broncos solidly in the Top 10The bounce-back must have been incredibly because the Denver Broncos are mostly all solidly within the Top 10 and only one major outlet knocking them out of it. If I’m being honest, I think 6th is rather fair given the 1-1 start and one of those games being U-G-L-Y.
If they take care of business at home against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, then we should see a big recovery back into the upper echelon of NFL power rankings.
NFL.com – 6th
Denver’s Jekyll-and-Hyde offense is back, but that’s better than what Sean Payton’s team produced in Week 1. The Broncos withstood early challenges presented by the Jaguars, came together defensively to stay within striking range — their third quarter goal-line stand swung the momentum in their favor — and woke up offensively with enough time to complete the comeback. Much like last season, I’d like to see that type of output happen earlier in a game, but at least Denver was able to get Jaylen Waddle going.
CBS Sports – 9th
Rallying from 10 down in the fourth quarter was impressive in beating the Jaguars. The defense really showed up in the second half.
NBC Sports – 6th
Jaylen Waddle arrives, a few days later than they’d hoped.
ESPN – 8th
Whether it’s an issue with his mechanics or rushing into plays, Nix is caught up in the Broncos’ propensity for slow starts under coach Sean Payton. In his first two seasons, Nix has thrown eight of his 23 interceptions in September — including three games with at least two picks. And in the season-opening loss to the Chiefs, Nix had his first career three-fumble game and was sacked four times, tying a career high. The Broncos escaped with a win in Week 2 after Nix and the offense got things cranked up in the second half. But he did throw his second interception of the season.
New York Times – 11th
The second-round running back might have earned a starting job Sunday. He led the Broncos with 39 yards on 10 carries and scored his first touchdown, celebrating with the Mile High Salute made famous by Terrell Davis. “You gotta pay respect to the guys that come before you,” Coleman said after the game. He’s the only player from Denver’s seven-man class making much of an impact.
