The Virginia Tech Hokies open the ACC schedule on Saturday against the Boston College Eagles. At 3-0, the Hokies aim to start 4-0 for the first time since 2017, Justin Fuente’s second season as head coach.
Saturday’s game at Chestnut Hill is expected to feature severe weather, something head coach James Franklin is preparing for. During Wednesday’s practice, the Hokies ran several drills with wet balls to prepare for Saturday’s weather.
As far as who will play in Saturday’s game, the ACC released its
first availability report for the Hokies on Wednesday, and only one player was ruled out: defensive tackle Emmett Laws. That’s not a surprise, as Laws is recovering from offseason surgery and is nearing his return.
Several players were listed as questionable:
- WR Ayden Greene
- WR Takye Heath
- WR Snook Peterkin
- RB Bill Davis
- CB Jojo Crim
- OL Lucas Austin
- OL Roseby Lubintus
- OL Justin Terry
- WR L.J. Booker
- WR Luke Stuewe
Of these names, Greene and Terry stand out the most. Greene, Virginia Tech’s leading receiver last year, was injured in last week’s game against Maryland. He left and did not return after catching four passes for 58 yards. The details of Greene’s injury are unknown, but Franklin said during Monday’s press availability that he could be a game-time decision for Saturday.
Terry’s situation remains unclear. The 6-foot-5, 331-pound redshirt sophomore started the first three games at left tackle for the Hokies. However, he suffered a lower-leg injury last week and did not return. He was later spotted on the sidelines with crutches. Franklin said on Monday he’d have more on Terry’s situation on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Franklin only said Terry wasn’t at practice, and they had to get other guys ready.
Redshirt junior Logan Howland, who transferred to Virginia Tech from Oklahoma, filled in for Terry after his injury last week. Redshirt junior Layth Ghannam, the Hokies’ starting left guard, also received practice reps at left tackle. Franklin noted they’d given Ghannam time at tackle in the offseason, and it was about having guys ready.
Stuewe returned to practice this week after missing some time with an injury.
The Hokies and Eagles are scheduled for a Noon kickoff on Saturday.
