What is the story about?
With the Bundesliga back underway, the schedule gets pretty congested for Borussia Dortmund over the next couple weeks, starting with a short turnaround against Werder Bremen tonight. There are only a few days between games for the rest of January, but the upside is there is no time to dwell on dropped points. BVB will be disappointed with the draw against Frankfurt at the weekend, but they can right the ship with a win at the Westfalenstadion tonight.
Here is your roundup of all the news from the BVB
and Bundesliga world today.
BVB News
- Niko Kovač has rubbished suggestions that BVB are in a title race with Bayern Munich. I’m sure this will annoy some folks, but I would argue Kovač is just being realistic.
- Reports suggest Liverpool might make a move for Julian Ryerson following Conor Bradley’s knee injury.
- There have been conflicting reports about Borussia Dortmund’s willingness to dip into the market this month, which, to me at least, suggests it’s more a case of only spending if the right guy is available. One of the players that might fit the bill is Club Brugge midfielder Alexander Stankovic.
Bundesliga News
- Timo Werner’s underwhelming reunion with RB Leipzig is coming to an end as the German forward closes in on a move to MLS club San Jose Earthquakes.
- Union Berlin are close to finalizing a move for Belgian center-back Zeno Van Den Bosch, who will join on a free transfer in the summer.
- Mainz are interested in signing Borussia Mönchengladbach center-back and Urs Fischer disciple Marvin Friedrich.
- St. Pauli’s hopes of surviving relegation have suffered a major setback as club captain Jackson Irvine is set to miss significant time due to a foot injury.
Your Thoughts?
What do you make of Niko Kovač’s thoughts on the title race? Are they a fair assessment of reality or a sign of Niko’s woeful lack of ambition? Let us know in the comments.
