DAZN takes a crack at trying to interview Daniel Dubois ahead of his upcoming rematch with Fabio Wardley on October 17. Dubois is generally short on words but often finds himself in dramatic action fights, and this upcoming sequel is expected to be no different. While Wardley has been saying he plans on tailoring his approach to change his fortune, Dubois says he’ll be ready for everything.
Dubois on how he’s feeling heading into Wardley rematch
“Right now I’m in the process of getting ready for fight night. I’m sometimes anxious and tense for a fight and sometimes I’m chill.
But, yeah, it’s just about finding a balance.”
On feeling like the king of the division
“Yeah, I’m definitely up there. Uncrowned king, I need to collect all the belts before I can really stamp my authority on this era of boxing.”
On feeling nervous before a fight
“I don’t think [the nerves] were there before the AJ fight. I think after the last fight with Usyk and the year I had out of the ring, just ring rust and nerves and other stuff like that. But now I just feel it’s up to me now to put on. Good fighters need to stay active and this is the start of the next chapter of my career.”
On Wardley planning to make adjustments for this rematch
“They won’t work against me. Can make all the changes he wants, I’ll have an answer for everything he does.”
On who he thinks he’ll have to get through to unify the division
“I think all of the guys up there, starting with [Wardley]. I think all of the people in the top 10 are good fights and good challenges.”
