German football fans may have been somewhat slow to realize it at first, but they really started taking notice of the footballing talent Greece possess when Borussia Dortmund’s new Greek forwards, Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias, started lighting up the Bundesliga. Konstantelias’ magic was unfortunately cut short by his ACL injury, but the brief glimpses he showed and the longer displays of magic from Karetsas have opened Germany’s eyes to the country’s talent.
Ahead of Germany’s clash
against Greece, Klopp was fully aware of the burgeoning talent of the country: “They have a lot of good players. This is a great generation, maybe the golden generation of Greek football,” Klopp opined (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The analysis was interesting. The results haven’t been there until the last game. They have a lot of quality, creativity and they work hard together. We respect Greece a lot and we know we’ll have to work hard to get a result.”
Greece certainly continued their run of getting results, managing to bag the victory over Germany in a shock 1-0 win. Now they sit top of the Nations League group as their young talent continues to make a statement. The Germans will have a chance to get their revenge on Greece in the same international break, but they will be well aware that it remains a very difficult task.
