After ceding his starting linebacker spot to Drake Thomas, second-year player Tyrice Knight was pressed into starting duties again for the Seattle Seahawks’ 44-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Knight delivered with a team-high eight tackles, three tackles for loss, and two strip-sacks of Jacoby Brissett that turned into DeMarcus Lawrence touchdowns.
It was a sensational performance by Knight, whose training camp and preseason was affected by a knee injury and an unspecified medical issue. Knight told reporters following the Cardinals game about the extent of his health problems.
“I had a little heart situation that got resolved early in training camp,” Knight said.
“The knee was more [of an issue than] the heart at that time. So, I wasn’t really tripping about the heart. Everything got situated with that. But the knee, you know, it just took some time for it to get back how it’s been.”
Knight additionally revealed that his knee injury concerned the MCL and meniscus. As a result, he did not play at all in preseason and missed several remaining training camp practices.
“I feel like I was out for that whole month of August,” Knight said. “When I got back, everything just felt slow, it didn’t feel like I was playing football. You can watch it, but you just can’t move. It’s such a different approach to
it, but I started to get back in my groove.”
The way he looked against the Cardinals, it sure looks like he’s back in his groove. And even if Ernest Jones IV returns this weekend against the Los Angeles Rams, he may find himself back in the linebacker rotation very soon.
