Tepper Sports and Entertainment (aka the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC) released new renderings of the upcoming renovations to Bank of America Stadium.
The renderings were released as part of an announcement regarding the extension of the stadium naming rights agreement between Bank of America and the Panthers.
Backend elements of the renovation are already underway while fan facing parts of the renovation will
begin next year. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2030 and is expected to cost in the ballpark of $1.3 billion. The city of Charlotte had already agreed to contribute $650 million to the project, but Tepper and the organization are electing to move forward with the full renovations, with private funding covering the other $650 million and any cost overruns.
I’m going to go with a take that might be a little hot here relative to the other online discourse I’ve seen. I think this is really cool. The renderings look super nice and are a much needed upgrade to the blandness that is Bank of America Stadium. And while the city is helping pay for it, Tepper does get some brownie points for going all out with the plans and chipping in a nice chunk of his own money instead of bending the city over a barrel to try to make them pay for the whole thing. I think we should enjoy this.
