Day of Rest
Champions League. As we enter into this Friday, let’s use it as a day of rest / reflection. There really isn’t an astounding amount of Real Madrid related news shaking headlines at the moment so let’s be courteous and take a deep
breath. In just general rival CL news, our Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid, Villareal, and Athletic Bilbao all lost to their counterparts while Barcelona won a last minute skittish game against Newcastle. Liverpool also barely beat Atletico Madrid, while Manchester City / PSG coasted towards relatively easy wins. After the first CL match, Real Madrid sits in 13th place with 3pts and a +1 GD. Our next match will be in two weeks in Kazakstan against Kairat who lost today1-4 against Sporting CP.
Continued Suspension I find zero joy talking about Spanish football from a corporate / regulatory body perspective, but the Dean Huijsen suspension is pretty baffling. I’m actually perplexed on how the Referee Committee stated a few days ago that the red card should’ve been a yellow and yet his suspension is still in place. Again, I’m not a conspiracy person when it comes to Real Madrid v refs. We often get favorable calls (e.g., Marseille handball was fortunate to say the least lol). However, it’s hard to argue against Spanish officials being quite incompetent. But it is what it is. This is more than football…it’s La Liga.
Hidden Rodrygo Interview. Rodry spoke to Brazilian media yesterday after the match and as I expected Madrid based aggregators barely touched his remarks. I don’t have the energy to really breakdown anything he’s said but I’ll post some of the quick clips below. You’ll have to click and translate if you don’t know Spanish or Portuguese.
Quick tidbits — he mentions the difficulty of end of last year and thanks his family / Carlo for being a support system. He mentions how he’s joyful for playing with Mbappe and having a good relationship. Mentions wanting to stay at Real Madrid ignoring the summer rumors which happen every year. And he mentions that he’s willing to play wherever but Xabi sees him as a LW.
Nature is Healing. Besides for Rudiger & Mendy, it looks like nature is healing and we’ll have a multitude of our attacking pieces back shortly. Besides the obvious duo of Cama / Jude, I’m increasingly interested in how Endrick will fare this year if at all. Gonzalo Garcia went from being the CWC top scorer (or player of the tournament I can’t remember…def top scorer. Player of the tournament was probably like Cole Palmer) to can barely grab a minute so I have no clue what Endrick is going to do. He’s already on the record as wanting to join Brazil for the WC and with the emergence of Joao Pedro + we know Carlo loves Richarlison, Endrick seems to be losing space. Maybe a winter season loan is in the works?
