Fight fans already knew Alex Pereira’s sons have been working on their striking like their father, but apparently they’re really good at grappler, too.
Pereira, who is widely regarded as one of the biggest stars on the UFC roster today, has been training his sons in mixed martial arts (MMA) for years. With the help of head coach, Glover Teixeira, Pereira’s kids have learned strategy and technique from two former UFC champions. Not too shabby when you’re in your teens and building a base for a potential
career in fighting.
While fans have seen footage of Pereira training striking alongside his sons the two young athletes have also been hitting the mats to elevate their grappling skills. After all, “Poatan” may not showcase his submission skills inside of the Octagon, but he is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under coach Plinio Cruz. Learning to grapple is a necessary tool for any fighter so it’s good to know Pereira’s isn’t cutting any corners with his kin.
On Friday, both of Pereira’s sons stepped inside the cage for a chance to show off their BJJ skills in respective grappling matches. His one son, Lohan, needed less than one minute to secure a slick submission and walk away with an easy win. It was quite impressive for the young Pereira.
