College football has been way more entertaining than it has any business being so far. We saw #1 Texas attempt a failed comeback against Ohio State, Alabama get smoked by Florida State, and at the time that I am writing this article, LSU just took a 17-10 lead over Clemson. Things will only get more interesting tonight when Notre Dame faces off against Miami, I’m sure, but this is all leading up to what everyone in the country is waiting for: UNC’s game against TCU. That would’ve been a joke last
year, but this year I’m telling the truth — there’s a lot of buzz behind Bill Belichick’s first game as a college head coach.
While there is certainly enough talk around this game, the almighty question is whether or not the Heels will be able to start the season 1-0, which is a hard question to answer. How can you possibly predict how a team with 70 new players and a new coaching staff will do against a team that has a bit more carryover from the previous season? I do not know that any of us are equipped to do such a thing, but Vegas certainly took their best shot. As of right now, Vegas favors TCU in this game by 3.5 points according to Fanduel Sportsbook. The slim margin doesn’t do enough for me to believe that TCU is a lock to win this one, but also it’s worth noting that this is what things look like with the Horned Frogs being the visiting team.
I’ll be the first to admit it: I don’t know a lot about TCU. They very well could be better than UNC in every way, but the funny thing is that the staff at Frogs O’ War have extremely similar predictions from their staff when it comes to regular season predictions as our staff does for UNC. They have a healthy mix of writers predicting that they will finish either 8-4 or 9-3, so the feeling that is sinking in is that this could be a bit of a Spiderman meme game of sorts. We will inevitably get an idea of who is actually the better team tomorrow night, but things seem a bit of a mystery for now as far as I’m concerned.
Ultimately, I’m just ready to watch some Carolina football. I’m sure many of you agree as well, but my question is: how many of you agree with the Vegas odds? Do you think UNC should be favored in this game? Let us know in the comments below.
