The Washington Commanders training camp rolls on for Day 16 in Ashburn, VA. This is the last early practice of camp before the team transitions to their in-season practice schedule next week. They will have a joint practice with the Ravens tomorrow as both team’s prepare for the preseason finale on Friday night.
Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before the start of today’s practice. No players are scheduled for after practice, but reporters will talk with players on the field. Quinn talked a lot
about injuries, but didn’t provide updates on several players like Odafe Oweh(calf) and Trey Amos(ankle) who have missed several weeks due to injury. Quinn said he would know more next week, which likely keeps them out of the preseason finale.
Ben Sinnott suffered an oblique injury, and will also miss Friday night’s game in Baltimore. Bill Croskey-Merritt is also dealing with a lower body injury, and was doing individual drills at practice today. Quinn said they are being cautious with a lot of the team’s injuries, and most of them wouldn’t keep players out if they were preparing for a regular season game.
Quinn was asked for one player that has stood out, or impress him, in training camp and the preseason, and he brought up Quan Martin. This came shortly before the team announced that veteran Will Harris was getting released. Quinn said he “felt an intensity and urgency ” from Martin this year. Quinn also talked up rookie LB Sonny Styles who has faced a lot of criticism of his performances in the the first two preseason games. Quinn said he takes command at the line of scrimmage, and he has the speed and quickness needed to excel in zone defense.
