It’s Sunday once more, and you know what that means — it’s time for our weekly social media roundup! We here at Pinstripe Alley may be a baseball blog, but even the Bronx Bombers have been swept up in Knicks fever, as the NBA Finals returned to New York City for the first time since yours truly was a toddler. How has the Yankees family been reacting to such a crazy week? Let’s find out!
Go New York, Go New York, Go!
Last Monday, Game 3 of the NBA Finals marked the first time the Mecca hosted an NBA Finals game since 1999. Naturally,
all the most important people not only in the Big Apple, but indeed, the country, descended on the Garden, headlined, of course, by arguably the two most famous New York legends of the 21st century: Derek Jeter and Eli Manning, the captains of New York’s last two major championships (with apologies to the New York Liberty and NYCFC, of course).
That game, unfortunately, turned out to be a disappointment, as the Knicks lost by four. On Wednesday, Game 4 looked to be even worse, with the Knicks falling behind by a whopping 29 points, only to make the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.
Naturally, CC Sabathia was in attendance, posting through the whole thing before making a cameo on the Knicks postgame show (alas, I could not find a video to embed, but for those watching, they would have seen CC briefly interrupt Monica McNutt before realizing she was live on camera).
Yankees captain Aaron Judge was also in attendance, although he tried (and failed) to keep it more on the down-low than the retired CC.
Primary Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay was there too, along with his son Charlie.
Those in attendance were not the only ones who celebrated on social media.
Please note that this was written prior to last night’s game; tune in next week for the Yankees’ responses to Game 5! #LetsGoKnicks!
CC’s Anniversary
Apparently, CC Sabathia forgot that it was his anniversary this week. Oops!
Adam’s Chess Matchup
Apparently, Adam Ottavino loves chess and regularly plays the game during rain delays — so to keep him humble, the YES Network brought in a nationally-ranked chess player to remind him that, just like Jon Snow, he knows nothing.
Dave’s Thoughts
As always, Yankees radio voice Dave Sims took to Instagram to react to the Yankees’ games this week.
Vote Yankees
The Yankees posted their first comedy sketch reminding the fans to vote for their favorite Yankees to make the All-Star team, with a particular focus this year on Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. There’s not much to say here, except “None of you should quit your day job, but you, Cody, definitely do not have a career in acting.” It’s a good thing these guys can hit a little round ball a long, long way.
A testament to how close these guys all are, Ashley Rodón can be found in the comments’ section, along with Ben Rice’s partner, enjoying the shenanigans.
YES’s Vacation Day
Apparently members of the YES Network team decided to go to last Saturday’s matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox, as it was to be broadcast by FOX, only for the game to get rained out.
