With the Ballon d’Or being awarded on Monday in London, current Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi was asked about the footballers heading to the city and who he feels is most likely to take home the coveted prize. Though De Zerbi took over at Tottenham well after Harry Kane moved to Bayern Munich, he was still asked about Kane as the manager of the club where the striker made his name.
In the press conference, De Zerbi said, “I think [Kane] deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.” When asked what part of
his game makes him a favorite, the Spurs coach stated that it is not just his goalscoring, but his overall level of play: “He’s a 9, a 10, a number 2, a number 6—a total player.”
De Zerbi acknowledged that Kane faces fierce competition for the award. When asked about Lamine Yamal and whether his World Cup win would make the difference between him and Kane, De Zerbi noted that while he doesn’t know what voters look for, “the Ballon d’Or has to be about the quality of the player.”
